Join me at Ai WeiWei's Forever Bicycles installation for a grounding full body flow class focused on the Yama "Aparigraha" from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Contemplating the Yamas or "social restraints" in your practice can help shine the light of awareness on parts of ourselves that we don't always notice, and help us live in a way that allows for less regret and a more peaceful mind. Aparigraha, meaning non-attachment or possessiveness, teaches us the art of witnessing what is and release. Author Julieanne O'Connor shares this guidance, “The sooner we let go of holding on, the sooner we can hold on to the beauty of what's unfolding before us. Nothing was ever meant to stay the same forever." This sequence incorporates twisting, balancing, deep hip opening stretches, and core strengthening in a slower sequence for any time. Since most of this practice is slower moving and grounded through two points of contact with the earth, try closing your eyes for as much as possible. When you remove a sense the other become heightened allowing you to feel more. Try it out and let me know what magic is revealed!
